Is cooking with nonstick cookware harmful to my pets?
When used properly, nonstick cookware is not harmful to pets.
Household fumes can be hazardous to small pets. Due to their small size and sensitive respiratory systems, birds in particular are vulnerable to fumes caused by burning foods or overheating cooking sprays, oils, fats, margarine, and butter. Scorched plastic handles, utensils, and polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) nonstick coating that has become damaged due to cooking with too high temperatures can also emit fumes harmful to birds.
For safety reasons, never cook with animals in or near the kitchen.
