It is important to thoroughly clean stainless steel cookware after each use to prevent staining or buildup from food or grease. Occasionally, stainless steel may exhibit a rainbow-like discoloration. This discoloration is normal for new stainless steel product. Such discoloration may also take place if the product is exposed to higher temperatures. As long as the product has not been overheated, this rainbow-like discoloration should be easy to remove. To remove, use Bar Keepers Friend® cleanser and a soft, nonabrasive sponge. Be sure to rinse thoroughly as cleansers can leave a powdery residue. Lemon juice will remove the "rainbow" effect as well.
To prevent water spotting, rinse in warm water after washing and towel dry thoroughly. If a spotted white film appears (caused by minerals in the water), try rubbing with a sponge or brush and lemon juice or vinegar. Wash, rinse, and towel dry.
To remove stubborn stains or discoloration, use a stainless steel cleaner such as Bon Ami® Polishing Compound or Barkeepers Friend®. The cleaner should be rubbed on the stains with a non-abrasive pad, cloth, or sponge. Do not scrub with steel wool or use harsh abrasive cleaners as scratching may occur.
Stainless steel cookware with a fully encapsulated base may also be placed in the automatic dishwasher using a mild dishwashing detergent. Always refer to the product's use & care guidelines before cooking with it or cleaning it.
